Free modern orange and green DIY wedding invitation {seen in Style Me Pretty}

Free orange and green DIY modern wedding invitation printable template with circles and stripes

Here’s my modern orange and green DIY wedding invitation that was seen in the Style Me Pretty feature “Inspiration to Reality: Modern Clementine.”

I designed this unique mod wedding invitation (as well as round guest placecards, address labels, and rectangular dessert table tents — free templates coming soon!) for Style Me Pretty when “our favorite vendors take an inspiration board and turn it into real life, adaptable ideas for you to make your own and use in your wedding.” Our mod orange and green inspiration board was created by fellow Chicagoan Maggie Eisenstat at I Do Love It:

The team’s goal was to design a wedding that was a little 1960s vintage-y yet updated for today, using bold patterns in black and white with accents of clementine orange, grassy green, and lush touches of metallic gold like this inspirational photo:

Maggie said “Thanks to the amazing team that brought my inspiration board to life. I love your interpretation – it’s so very chic! … I also LOVE the invitation! Great great work!”

How to make modern orange and green DIY wedding invitations:

Assemble your paper and envelopes from Paper Source. I designed this project before they sold pre-cut envelope liners (what a time saver!) so I cut my liners by hand using the envelope liner template kit. But it’s totally worth just purchasing the pre-cut envelope liners as long as they have your desired color.

Download and customize my free modern orange and green wedding invitation printable template. You have two free downloadable options for the free orange and green wedding invitation template. For both, FIRST be sure to download and install the free font — Latin Modern Sans via Font Squirrel — or else they will look wonky…

Any problems, just contact me if you need help and I can do it for you for a very nominal design fee.

Print the invitation onto Luxe White Cover Paper – and I recommend using a laser printer. You will get two invitations per one sheet of paper. Be sure you buy cover-weight paper because it is thicker and nicer than regular paper.

Using your Xacto knife, metal ruler and self-healing cutting mat OR paper trimmer, cut out the invitations. Line up your metal ruler on the guides on the printable card on top of a self-healing mat. Run your Xacto knife along the ruler to cut out. TIP: Just cut it out from the center rather than cutting the whole strip off so that you can still see the guides as you cut each side. Really and truly do not use scissors – you don’t want your invites to look sloppy.

Again using your Xacto knife, metal ruler and self-healing cutting mat OR paper trimmer, cut out XX” x XX” gold invitation backs from cover weight paper. Glue the invitation front to the invitation backs, centering the invitation fronts to show the gold border.

Line envelopes with gold, either by following the instructions in this video to create custom envelope liners from paper or buy using pre-cut envelope liners. Here’s the antique gold lining and the gold back of the wedding invitation:

Thanks Kathy! To what dimensions do you think I should cut the gold background paper? I just got all of my supplies today and am excited to get moving!

Hi Vanessa, how is your invitation-making going? I'm glad you wrote about the gold background paper. I realize I forgot to put those dimensions in! Anyway, what did you end up using? Eyeballing my photo, I think that I did .25" extra on each side but I'd love to hear what you did.

Hi Vanessa, it's a PDF that will open using Adobe Illustrator. Once you download it, then open it manually in Adobe Illustrator with "File...Open." Let me know if that helps? If not, I can email it directly to you so please let me know.

Enjoy! Glad that you like it! And I'd love to see what you do with it so feel free to share at facebook.com/merrimentdesign
