Fantastic way to make your room dark in the summer months

Fantastic way to make your room dark in the summer months
I didn't really know what I was ordering when I bought this. But what I did know is that I needed something to help block out the EARLY summer morning sun. My window sizes are rather large and not standard so buying a pre-made black out blind was not an option. Custom shades were going to be super expensive. I decided to make a "blind" myself. This material is great. The material comes rolled on a hard cardboard core in a heavy duty plastic bag. The material is not wrinkled at all. Rolls right off with no issues. I ordered 11 yards and it was all one continuous piece. This material is thicker than traditional fabric but is fairly flexible. It is stiff to a certain point so it will hang straight down but has enough give to act like a curtain. The front side is ivory (which is what I wanted) and the back is white. It is very easy to cut with traditional scissors. I ended up making a straight hang down blind by sewing a basic fold over at the top and inserted a tension rod to fit inside the window frame at the top behind the mini-blinds. Works like a charm. While sewing the "seam" I used duct tape to hold the flap over so I wouldn't get pin holes in the material. No issues using a sewing machine with a normal needle. No pin holes of light going through the seam area. Easy, easy.I wish I had more skills to make a "roman" shade to pull it up instead of taking the tension rod down each morning. This would be perfect material to make a roman shade. There doesn't seem to be a good roller kit available either to glue the fabric to the roller to make a roller shade. I looked all over the internet for one but gave up. In the end my method worked and I am not going to complain because I was able to get five windows done for under $120 including the tension rods. See photos of one window with the "drape" behind the mini-blinds and the window next to it without the "drape".I will use this for the summer months and then put away during the winter when it doesn't get light until later in the day. Highly recommend as an economical way to make your room dark for sleeping.
