Aren’t the Astrobrights paper colors gorgeous? It’s hard to choose just one color combination for these paper Easter baskets so I guess I’ll just have to make a bunch!

Astrobrights Papers bright colored paper

I like the idea of The Easter Bunny creating these super special, handmade paper Easter baskets for my kids filled with yummy treats. You can even use Astrobrights card stock paper to make your own DIY paper Easter grass. You can make super cute paper grass in any color.

Cute and easy Easter table decorations

This Easter basket template makes really cute table decorations or Easter table place cards too. I chose ASTROBRIGHTS card stock paper in Terrestrial Teal™, Pulsar Pink™, Sunburst Yellow™, and Martian Green™ for Elise’s Easter basket. This DIY cardboard basket on Pinterest was my inspiration. It’s in Spanish and doesn’t include measurements or a printable template so I created my own version with some additional clever Easter embellishments like a middle handle and fanned-out colors…

I recently created a brand new smaller paper Easter basket template that’s perfect for making DIY Easter place cards. This new teeny paper basket template includes an editable template to add names for family and friends. You can make an Easter place card for each guest and fill them with cute treats like these foil-wrapped bunnies with ribbon necklaces. Supplies for making my DIY Paper Easter Basket:

How to make a DIY paper Easter basket:

These instructions make paper Easter baskets that are about 5-1/2″ x 3-1/4″. You could use my tutorial to make larger baskets too, just tape some sheets together first and follow the general instructions. Want a smaller basket? Check out my brand new teeny size Easter basket template with personalized names.

Step 1: Choose colors for your Easter basket template

First, choose your colors of Astrobrights card stock paper. Be sure to check out my color palettes for color combo ideas. Go download my free printable paper Easter basket template (PDF) and print the template onto colored card stock paper. Cut 1″ off each short side. Set the cut strip aside to use for the basket handle later.

Step 2: Score the lines on the basket

Score the two dotted lines on the template by dragging the back of your craft knife along the ruler edge – just do it lightly to score it rather than cutting through the paper. If you aren’t using my printable template then measure 7cm from the top long edge of your paper and score that line.

Repeat on the bottom long edge of the dotted line (7cm again).

Step 3: Cut strips on both sides of the basket template

Now on the left side, cut three strips that are 1” wide each, making sure to stop at your score line, so you have three cut rectangles on the top and three on the bottom. My Easter basket printable template will show you exactly where to cut these strips.

Repeat it on the right side of the basket template. You’ll have slits for your basket like the photo below.

Step 4: Cut triangles on each side

See the squares in the middle top and bottom? You’re going to turn those into triangles. Cut to the middle of the center like so, or follow the lines on my free printable template.

And repeat on the other square.

Step 5: Decorate your Easter basket template with bright colors

Now let’s decorate your Easter basket! Cut 1” strips of three other colors, then trim them down to 7cm long each.

Glue the colors to the outside of your pink strips, lining them up evenly on the sides. Let them dry.

Step 6: Fold and secure your DIY Easter basket

Fold along the score lines and fan the strips into the center of the triangle. The easiest way to do this is to line up the back strips first like so…

Then fiddle with the other colors until the triangles line up. Staple it together and repeat on the other side of the paper Easter basket.

You can punch 1″ circles using a 1″ craft punch to make a scalloped edge around the top of the Easter basket.

Step 7: Make and secure the Easter basket handle

Punch a 2″ circle using a 2″ circle craft punch, or cut a scallop shape, or just free-shape it and fold in half.

Punching paper circles

Now here’s a little trick I figured out to make the Easter basket handle look cute. Cut a 1″ slit in the middle.

Adding slits to the handle of a paper Easter basket

Slide the handle through the slit and glue it to the inside of the circle – I used a glue dot.

Putting a glue dot on a paper basket handle

Repeat on the other side.

Now glue the circle on the top to hide the staple. Your Easter basket handle will be hidden inside the circle.

Step 8: Make your own paper grass for the Easter basket

It’s so easy to make your own paper grass. Make your own paper Easter grass by shredding the paper or using your craft knife.

Making paper grass for an Easter basket

Crumple up the paper Easter grass and put it inside your DIY Easter basket. Seriously, never buy that fake plastic grass again. Paper grass is so much cuter, and you can make only what you need.
