Easy DIY Custom Jewelry using Styled By Tori Spelling

DIY custom jewelry using Styled by Tori Spelling Noir and Glitz collections

I’ve always been intimidated about making my own jewelry. Honestly, for me all the supplies and tools kind of made the cost of entry too high for me, both literally and figuratively. But then I was sent a box of Styled by Tori Spelling DIY mix-and-match jewelry pieces — no tools required!

I received the Noir and Glitz collections (Boho and Glam are also available at Michaels and Jo-Ann, pieces may vary by store) which ended up being perfect for a city girl like me who loves simple jewelry that makes a statement. And it’s all mix-and-match which means you can really customize and coordinate to create new pieces for yourself …and easily take them apart again to make something new.

My jewelry style is what I would call “City Simple” — I like just a little flash without going overboard so that’s what I’ll be showing you. I wrote this post as part of a paid campaign with Darice and Blueprint Social but all opinions and creations are mine. It’s all very simple to do but I will warn you that it’s a kind of addicting. I’m going to share a few of my DIY creations so far, everything from very simple custom necklaces…

…plus some necklaces where I substituted grosgrain ribbon backs like this Styled by Tori Spelling matte gold and silver metal with gold ribbon…

…and this Styled by Tori Spelling tassel dangler that I turned into a necklace using silver grosgrain ribbon…

…which you can then easily take apart and switch up into layered tassel earrings…

Because I’m a sucker for tassels (as you can probably tell by now) I added a Styled by Tori Spelling silver tassel dangler onto my prized silver Statue of Liberty necklace…

I also used Styled by Tori Spelling to embellish my JCrew silver skinny belt…

…and now that I’m a mom of two, I decided to make some festive tassel and beaded cocktail drink stirrers using Styled by Tori Spelling danglers…

…and make some bejeweled vases for incoming “welcome home baby Liam” flowers…

As far as things I wish were a bit different: I would like to have longer necklace top half chain options so that I could more easily make simple necklaces using just danglers and pendants. Also, some of the holes on the danglers were too small to fit onto the S-hook connectors and personally, I wasn’t a fan of the spring ring connector look. Lastly, some of the pieces look more “costume jewelry” than others and no surprise I tended to gravitate to pieces that look more expensive than they are. But overall there’s plenty to play with either using just the Styled By Tori Spelling pieces or embellishing what you already own.

Let’s start with how to make easy custom DIY necklaces and earrings below as well as these tutorials:

{Necklace Variation} How to use grograin ribbon for necklace backs

The gold and silver Glitz-Multi Style Chain Necklace bottom is my #1 favorite piece in the entire Styled By Tori Spelling collection — it stuck out to me right away …it is matte with mesh links and to quote Nina Garcia just looks expensive.

I decided to do something a little different by adding a bit of gold ribbon. Easy peasy.

1. Assemble your supplies: Your choice of Styled By Tori Spelling jewelry necklace base (I used Glitz-Multi Style Chain Necklace) which is available at Michaels and Jo-Ann (pieces may vary by store), gold or silver ribbon, lighter, scissors.

2. Choose your ribbon: maybe gold for today, silver for tomorrow.

3. Cut a piece off at the height that you’d like the necklace to hang, leaving a bit extra for the knots. Cut each end at a 45 degree angle.

4. Take a lighter, light it and then very quickly pass it near the end of the ribbon to seal it off. Be careful to not be too close or else it will singe it brown, trust me 🙂

5. Tie a ribbon knot in the end of the necklace.

6. Repeat on the other side.

How to make custom tassel earrings using Styled by Tori Spelling jewelry

The earrings are crazy easy and you really only need a couple of pieces from the Styled By Tori Spelling collection. And notice that I used the danglers (the Glitz Black and Hematite Tassels) for these earrings that I also used to make festive tassel cocktail drink stirrers — this is what I like about this collection, how easy it is to put it together AND take it apart to something new.

1. Assemble your supplies: Your choice of Styled By Tori Spelling danglers and earring findings (I used Glitz Black and Hematite Tassels danglers and Noir Black Earring Findings) which are available at Michaels and Jo-Ann (pieces may vary by store).

2. Choose either a small or large earring loop — I think small looks best with most of the tassel danglers.

3. Close the earring loop. There you go. City simple.

4. Repeat for the other earring.

How to embellish skinny belts using using Styled by Tori Spelling pendants

DIY custom jewelry using Styled by Tori Spelling Noir and Glitz collections

1. Assemble your supplies: Styled By Tori Spelling Noir Pendant Rose Hematite with Crystal which is available at Michaels and Jo-Ann (pieces may vary by store), Silver skinny belt, Very small ponytail holder.

2. Fold the ponytail holder in two and thread it through one of the rings on the back of the pendant.

3. Slip the left loop back through the right loop and pull.

4. Now this is where you’d put your belt on (but for these photos I’m showing it off so it’s easier to see the steps). Slip the right loop through the other ring on the back of the pendant so that the belt is between the pendant and the ponytail holder.

5. Stretch the ponytail loop up over the pendant.

6. The back will look like this — nice and secure.
